Each person expecting twins, sooner or later, will have to decide what type of stroller to choose for their little ones: a tandem stroller or a side by side stroller.

We've decided to help you a bit with this decision and have created a table comparing common strollers of both types (and their typical dimensions) to help you decide which type of stroller will be more suitable for you. It is worth remembering that sometimes there are deviations from the norm and you can find strollers on the market one after the other, which will have some features assigned rather to strollers next to each other and vice versa.

The features indicated in the table will help you understand what to look for when comparing specific models to choose the perfect twin stroller.

Cart one by one

Cart side by side

The length of the gondola and the walking seat

Length: 85 - 70 cm
Width: 43 - 35 cm

Length: 87 - 75 cm
Width: 40 - 30 cm

Usually a stroller has a seat that is wider than a stroller next to each other. This makes it more comfortable for children, there is more space for a blanket, sleeping bag or toys.

Width of the cart

65-60 cm

85 - 70 cm

The width of a cart is smaller than that of a cart next to each other. Such a stroller will easily pass through all doors , walk along narrow sidewalks or enter public transport. With a side-by-side stroller it may not fit into some aisles.

Length of the cart

160 - 130 cm

120 - 105 cm

The side by side stroller is shorter and therefore easier to turn or turn around .

Driving over curbs

The stroller bumps worse due to its length.

It is easier to climb curbs with it.

It is worth paying attention to whether the stroller has large rear wheels , which definitely make it easier to raise any type of stroller.

Folding and unfolding and moving the frame

The width of the folded frame is comparable to that of a pram for one child. Easier to put it in the trunk.

It is more difficult to transfer such a rack into the trunk, because its width is greater than with standard strollers. Getting the frame wide can be problematic.

It is worth testing the folding and unfolding of the stroller in the store or carefully watch the instructional videos that are often shown on the websites of stroller manufacturers.

Weight of the stroller frame

The weight of the frame is similar on both types of twin stroller and is usually between 9.5 and 11 kg.

Access to the shopping basket

Accessing the recycle bin may be a bit difficult.

No problems with that, access to the basket like in a pram for one child.

Driving the cart

Easier to steer but turning around with a longer cart can be problematic.

Turning and turning around can be easier than with a longer cart . Some people, however, complain that the carts are difficult to drive side by side due to their width.

It is best to check how the cart handles in the store. Some will like a longer but narrower stroller, some will be more comfortable with a wider but shorter stroller. There is no rule here, it all depends on personal preferences.

How to arrange the children

It may happen that in some configurations one of the seats blocks the other and they cannot be unfolded independently.

Some children may find it difficult to seat in the back, but on many models the seat can be turned to a forward facing position.

In some setups, children cannot see each other. However, this can be a big advantage of tandem trolleys, which allow you to arrange the seats in several ways. Thanks to this, we can place the children in front of each other, but also with our backs turned.

Each seat is equal, each seat can be tilted independently of each other.

Children see the same thing, and you can see them simultaneously and have the same access to them.

Children are in constant contact with each other. They can play together, but they can also get in the way of napping.

Which type of trolley should you choose? As you can see, it is a very individual matter. We can find opponents and supporters of each model. It is important to adjust the stroller to yourself and your preferences. There are other things to consider before buying, which we have discussed in detail here.

What type of wheelchair have you chosen? How is it working for you? Would you choose the same thing a second time?
